10 Days of Nail Art

crackle nail art

Day 4: Cracked grunge

This is a really easy way to do something fun and different with your nails, and it actually doesn’t require any “artwork” at all — as long as you have an effects nail polish. We used Nails, Inc. Special Effects Polish, but both OPI and Sally Hansen have created this same kind of formula.

What we used:

Milani Nail Lacquer 3D Holographic, $3.99

Zoya Nail Polish in Luna, $8

Nicole by OPI Nail Polish in Rich in Spirit, $7

Nails, Inc. Special Effects Polish in Camden, $10

Sparitual True Bond Topcoat, $15

How we got the look:

Step 1. Anna started by painting each nail a different color. We decided to use different shades of blue on each nail for a more cohesive look.

Step 2. Once the base was dry, she laid down a single coat of the special “crackle” effect polish. (Warning: Don’t paint over this again, or else you’ll ruin the crackled effect and have to start all over.)

Step 3. We waited while the top nail polish coat “cracked” and made some pretty interesting texture patterns, then finished with a top coat. (If you want a grungier look, skip the clear topcoat.)
