Pageant queens don’t always win
“Once there was a girl that came in with rings on almost every finger, and she kept talking with her hands. ‘Clink, clank, clack.’ It was so distracting, I wasn’t focused on what was coming out of her mouth, but rather the awful song her rings were playing,” says the HR specialist.
Moral of the story: It’s a job interview, not a beauty contest. Go easy on the accessories — the interviewer should be able to focus on what you’re saying, not your giant necklace or huge earrings. On the other hand, “your appearance is my first impression, so make it a good one,” says the HR specialist. Just don’t overdo it.
