Tips for Green Eye Makeup

Green Eye Makeup can be a little tricky. You want to accentuate your beautiful green eyes — not hide them under a million pounds of makeup. Luckily, we’ve got expert makeup tips from MAC Cosmetics Director of Makeup Artistry Gregory Arlt, so your green eye makeup can be flawless.

The first step: figuring out what shades of green eye makeup work best. Purple is a great makeup shade. Since it is on the opposite side of the color wheel (remember 7th grade art class?) it will contrast nicely with green eyes and bring them out. Of course, you don’t have to stick with one shade, you can try everything from lavender to eggplant and plum, even pinks and dark grays are excellent makeup shades for green eyes.

Second step: Knowing what types of green eye makeup don’t work. Arlt says you want to stay away from red eye makeup, since it will clash with your eyes (and make you look like part of a Christmas pageant). Another makeup shade to avoid with green eyes is black. Too much of it will hide your green eyes, and why would you want to do that?!

Third step: Think outside of the box with your green eye makeup. Try a makeup shade like bronze or copper. At first glance it might not seem like a good shade to pair with your eyes, but the end result is a glowing makeup look and vividly sparkling eyes. Try it out next time you want a glam green eye makeup look and you’ll see exactly what we mean.
