Hair Extensions: The Real Deal

Hair extensions are something I’ve been curious about forever, how about you? It’s probably because of my baby-fine hair, but I’m always jealous of celebrities with super long, thick hair. Of course, I know in almost all those cases it’s not really their hair — it’s hair extensions.

But before I jumped on the hair extensions bandwagon, I wanted to get my facts straight. Because figuring out what hair bonding is to how to use clip-ins can be tough on your own. So I spoke with Jennifer Jeanne, owner of Celebrity Extensions Salon in Los Angeles. She told me everything you need to know about extensions, from the different types, to how the heck to take care of the things once they’re on your head. (Trust me, it’s not as simple as you might think.)

Are you thinking of getting hair extensions? It’s the best way to copy the long hairstyles of celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Heidi Montag and Miley Cyrus. However, it’s not for everyone. Jeanne cautions that you need to take excellent care of your extensions — unless you like the idea of dry hair or bald patches (eek!).

So how do you know if real hair extensions are right for you? Well, by reading this guide of course. Like I said, it’s got everything you need to know (from explaining what hair bonding is to taking care of your extensions). You could also start by buying clip-in hair extensions for a test run, but Jeanne stresses that you shouldn’t wear these every day since they can majorly damage your hair.

So read on to decide for yourself: is a thick head of hair (extensions) in your future? Only one way to find out (uh, that would be by reading our hair extensions 101 guide).
