Odd Secrets from Fashion Week

Who says lipstick has to go on your lips?

Makeup artists don’t care much about the “rules,” and there were multiple times we saw them putting lipstick on eyelids, eye shadow on lips and bronzer pretty much everywhere.

Backstage at Zero+Maria Cornejo, Shiseido makeup artist Dick Page used Benefiance Full Correction Lip Treatment, $39 on eyelids, then tapped a little gold eye shadow on top of it for a shimmery glow. However, he says if you want to try this in real life, you’re better off using eye primer instead of lip balm, since balm will turn any mascara or eyeliner into a streaky mess.

And at Derek Lam, Tom Pecheux for Estee Lauder used two shades of orange Pure Color Lipstick (not launching until March 2011) on the models’ eyes.

In the opposite direction, Stila makeup artist Sarah Lucero used a shimmery eye shadow over lipstick backstage at Lela Rose and bronzer on lips at Rebecca Minkoff. She says both methods help lip color last longer, since the shadow acts like a finishing powder and the Stila One Step Primecolor in Bronze Babe, $22 has a primer in it.
