Best Hat For Your Face Shape

Here’s my dilemma when it comes to hat shopping: I love the way it looks on the mannequin, so I snatch it up and place it on my head. That’s when I become painfully aware of how wide my forehead is. Or I notice how far my ears stick out. Oh, and then there’s my nose …

Is it just me, or does the wrong hat totally highlight all of your (worst) flaws? After 12 failed attempts at finding a hat that actually looked cute on me, I was about to give up. I couldn’t find any helpful guidelines out there, and it seemed like there were no “rules” for hat hunting. I know every hat looks different on every woman (duh), and it’s all about trying on different hats to find one that’s right for you, but I need help.

While it’s fun to experiment, I thought it would be really helpful to have a guide for finding the best hat for your face shape. I talked to Lani Inlander, stylist for Style for Hire, to get her basic tips when it came to hat shopping.

Inlander gave us the best hat recommendations for everything, from minimizing a big forehead to playing up those gorgeous cheekbones. And don’t forget — your hair makes a huge difference in the way a hat looks on you too. So click here to find the best hairstyle for your face shape first, and then find the perfect hat for your look.

With that said, there is one rule of hat hunting: Have fun with it! And this might sound like a no-brainer, but tons of people buy hats because they look super cute on the mannequin, and realize three days later that they don’t fit properly on their own head. So before you buy, make sure it fits, OK?
