Inlander’s advice: “It’s better to get one great pair of shoes than five mediocre pairs.” We totally agree. For work, look for a basic pair of black pumps and/or a pair of black flats. Buy ones that feel comfortable and look clean and professional (read: your cheap-y flats that look like they’re about to fall apart do not cut it). Michelle Obama’s simple black flats would be perfect for the office.

When buying heels for work, make sure they’re not too high — you want to be able to walk around all day without screaming in pain, plus too-high heels are more “sexy” than “professional.”
