There’s nothing worse than a face caked in half-dissolved makeup. And, though summer is (sadly) coming to an end, there are still warm days ahead. (Even so, liquid formulas are well suited for colder weather, because the cold tends to be quite drying to our skin — and powder can exaggerate any potential flakiness.)
The best part? More than just your base can go on in liquid form. Here’s why you should skip the powders and go liquid.

Liquid Foundations for a Flawless Finish
When it comes to your face, there are an abundance options for lighter formulas:
E.L.F. Beautifully Bare Foundation Serum , $8.00, offers a new and very nicely-priced option for super lightweight coverage in the form of serum foundation which melts into the skin.
On the higher end, Dior brings us foundation in a can via Dior Diorskin Airflash Spray Foundation , $62. This radiance-boosting foundation even has mother-of-pearl pigments making it worth the splurge.
Liquid Highlighter for Glowy Skin
Highlight
Add a bit of shine with a touch (that’s all you need!) of L’Oreal’s True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator , $12.99
To add a lightweight glow, pick up Topshop’s Glow Dome , $14 (which comes in two shades) and gives an otherworldly sheen. Plus, its cute and fun container makes it perfect for on-the-go touchups.
Liquid Highlighters and Bronzers
Even contouring can be done in a way that doesn’t make your face powder-city. I’ve used the serum dispenser on Perricone MD’s No Bronzer Bronzer , $35 to create what I would call a contour-for-dummies look. Here’s how: I purse my lips like I’m blowing a kiss and paint a stripe down the hollows of my cheeks from my ears to my lips and blend (quickly, so it doesn’t run) with a Beauty Blender , $20.
For an all-over glow, try ByTerry’s Hyaluronic Summer . It's a liquid bronzer-esque formula that can be used under or over your foundation. Though it’s not exactly a liquid, another lightweight solution is Sonia Kashuk’s Chic Defining Contour Stick , $10.99, which makes contouring as fun and simple as using a crayon.
Liquid Makeup Fit for a Vacay
Finally, the super-chic bronzing and highlighting creamy duo in the Filmstar Bronze & Glow , $80 compact by Charlotte Tilbury is perfect for any trips to the beach -- thanks to the bronzer, you shouldn’t be tempted to lay out in the sun, and the highlighter will amp up your vacay glow.
Liquid Eye Makeup for Defined Eyes
Cream shadows are lighter than powder, and liquids are lighter than creams. However, creams are certainly the more common option. So, it’s pretty cool that Giorgio Armani’s Eye Tint , $38 brings us makeup junkies, 12 gorge shades ranging from nude and shimmery to bright teal and dark navy in a liquid form that looks like a tube of lipstick. Plus, they last 16 hours without any smudging or creasing. (Would it be too much to collect all 12?) A more mid-range option is Josie Maran’s coconut-infused Watercolor Eyeshadow , $18. The best bet, however, is Almay’s Intense I-Color Liquid Eyeshadow , $8.49 which is an under-$10 option!
Keep your liner liquid for that easy look too. For a bold look, try Maybelline’s Master Graphic Liquid Eyeliner , $6.25, which is like a straight-up marker for your eyes. The lightest mascara I’ve come across is Perricone MD’s No Mascara Mascara , $30, due to its applicator being like a fine-toothed comb.
Liquid Blush for a Rosy Glow
It would be tragic to come so far with your liquefied-look only to coat your cheeks in powdered blush. Keep the lightweight, footloose and fancy-free vibe going with liquid blushes. A few to try: Korean brand Touch In Sol’s Technicolor Lip & Cheek Tint , $22. ByTerry’s Cellularose Blush Glace , $58, in Rose Melba, gives the cheeks a pop of pink, and it smells like roses. Speaking of roses, they’re also the scent in Benefit’s classic Benetint , $30.
Liquid Lipstick That Lasts
As for how to keep it simple and make it last, try one of the many shades of Sephora’s Luster Matte Long-Wear Lip Color , $16, Kat Von D’s ultra-popular Everlasting Liquid Lipstick , $20 (just make sure you’ve got a makeup-removing wipe handy before bedtime!), or L’oreal’s Colour Riche Extraordinaire Liquid Lipstick , $7.99
Liquid Makeup With SPF
We like to keep a cushion compact handy, like Laneige’s BB Cushion , $34, a Korean export which can be found at your nearest Target, or a splurge like Sulwhasoo’s brand new Perfecting Cushion , $60. They’ll keep you looking #flawless -- and boast SPF 50!
