| Every power-blonde in Hollywood has sported drop dead red lips at one point or another. Reese Witherspoon?s career compares with the best of them and stands behind her intense mandarin smile. The cardinal rule of red lipstick: everything else on the face should be neutral and understated. You should keep in mind that blue-based reds go better with cooler coloring, while orange-based reds work for warmer faces. |
FACE |
|
|
| Foundation / concealer
|
Start with clean, exfoliated skin. After allowing moisturizer to soak in, apply concealer to the inner corners of the eyes and underneath to cover dark circles. Apply a small amount of concealer to the eyelid as an eye shadow base.
Apply foundation to any uneven areas of your face. Use light, downward strokes. |
| Blush |
Apply a berry or rose blush in thin layers until you have a delicate glow. If your face is full or round, apply blush to the apples of your cheeks. Otherwise, you can go a little higher on the cheekbone. |
EYES |
|
|
| Eyelid |
Apply a pearly, light gold or beige shadow from the lid to the crease. Next sweep just a thin line of this shade right against the lower lash line. |
| Crease |
Apply a medium brown or taupe shadow in the crease from corner to corner. Blend very well. |
| Hilite |
Use a very light tinted, neutral shadow sparingly just under the arch of your brow. Use just enough to brighten your eyes. Blend very well. |
| Eyeliner |
Use a dark or medium brown powder liner or shadow, applied with a wet liner brush.
Line the upper lash line only. Carefully applying from the underside of lashes, work the liner into the lash line, between the lashes. Stay just within the lashes, themselves ? do not extend beyond the lash line at either end. The goal is to create the illusion of fuller lashes and to enhance the eye, while keeping as natural an appearance as possible.
|
| Mascara |
Curl the upper lashes. Coat upper lashes two times with a black, lengthening mascara. Add a single layer of mascara to the lower lashes, if desired. |
| Brows |
Use a brow powder or eye shadow to shape and fill in your brows, if needed. Apply with an angled brow brush. Choose a shade as close to your hair color as possible or just a bit darker.
Start by defining the arch of each brow. Step back and look at your entire face in the mirror, and then fill in the rest of the brow as necessary. |
LIPS |
|
|
|
To smooth lips, try this trick. Put a dollop of petroleum jelly on the bristles of an old toothbrush. Then dab the petroleum jelly into a bit of table sugar. Now brush your lips with the mixture. The sugar gently exfoliates while the petroleum jelly moisturizes
Choose a shade of red that compliments your coloring.
Apply one coat of the lipstick and blot with tissue, then apply a second coat. Repeat for longer lasting power. Then, line the lips, blending lip pencil into lip color just a bit. |
