Julia Roberts at the 74th Annual Academy Awards

Julia Roberts appeared laid-back at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony, but her smoky eyes were unforgettable.

FACE
Foundation / Concealer After moisturizing, apply concealer to the inner corners of the eyes and underneath to cover dark circles. Apply a small amount of concealer to the eyelid for a base foundation before applying shadow.

Use a foundation shade as close to your natural skin tone as possible and apply to any other areas of the face that need evening out. Blend well.
Blush Use a rose or wine blush, depending upon which compliments your skin tone better. You should apply your blush in the style that best suits your face. Round faces look better with blush applied to the apple of the cheek, while narrower faces can take blush on the cheekbone. Apply blush one light layer at a time until you have a delicate, pink glow.
EYES
Eyelid Apply a matte gray or taupe from the lid to the crease. Don’t apply in the crease, however, or you will look like a raccoon! Now swipe just a light layer of this color along your lower lashline.
Crease Apply an earthy pink shadow (one with brown undertones) in a matte formula to the crease from corner to corner.
Hilite Apply a lighter shade of the pink used on the crease just below the brow, from underneath the arch to the outer corner.
Eyeliner Choose a dark gray or black/brown powder liner or eyeshadow. Use a wet brush dipped in the powder to apply.

Apply a thin line to the top lash line, from corner to corner. Use a light touch and get the color in between the lashes. You can try dotting your way across the lashline and then going back and filling in to create one continuous line. Repeat until your lashline is nicely filled in, without allowing the line to get too heavy. Then, repeat the process on the lower lashline. Finally, trace a thin, delicate line around the inner corners of the eyes for a really professional look.
Brows Use a brow pencil or powder to shape and fill in brows. Start by defining the arch and then fill in the rest as necessary.
Lashes Curl lashes and coat two or three times with a black, lengthening mascara.

To add extra umph to lashes, apply one coat underneath lashes as usual, then apply another coat to just the tips of lashes, but from above.

LIPS
To get glass-smooth lips, try brushing them very gently with an old, soft toothbrush. Then apply petroleum jelly and allow it to soak in for 30 or more minutes.

Choose a matching lipliner and lipstick in a rose or berry that matches your blush as closely as possible. Apply one coat of the lipstick and blot with tissue, then apply a second coat. Then, line the lips if necessary.
