This heaven-sent look is pure classic Tinseltown, capturing strong eyes and an understated mouth: |
FACE |
|
|
| Foundation / concealer
|
The classic face calls for minimal coverage. Conceal dark circles under the eyes and in inner corners, as well as other problem areas. Use a yellow-based shade, or green-based for redness. Blend very well.
If desired, try a powder-based foundation. To set concealer and/or foundation, lightly apply the powder foundation dry, sparingly to avoid dullness. Blend, blend, blend. |
| Blush |
The classic face focuses on the eyes, so stay away from bright, purple-ish colors. Use whatever red or coral-based color looks natural on you. Cream, gel or stick formulas blend easier and last longer.
Apply blush lightly to the apples of the cheeks. Blend mercilessly. Add touches to the temples, nose and chin if desired, but keep it light. |
| EYES |
|
|
| Eyelid |
This classic eye can be created using neutrals. Sweep your favorite medium brown shade across the lid. Blend. |
| Crease |
Define the eye socket with a darker brown (pick a pearly one for evening glamour) or use the same shade you used on the lid. Blend well. |
| Hilite |
Use cream or pale beige. You can use a pearly formula for more definition or glamour. For evening, you can touch some of this color in the inner corners of the eyes. Blend! |
| Eyeliner |
Black or charcoal in liquid (if you're good with it) or pencil will do. Or, apply wet eyeshadow with an angled brush. Use a pearly shade if for evening glamour.
Apply liner on the top lashline, from the inner corner all the way to the outer corner. Make a special effort to get liner in between the lashes, leaving no gaps. At the outer corners, you can widen the line, sweeping it slightly upward to create "wings."
The thickness of the line is your choice, but many find that starting with a thin line at the inner corners, getting wider as it progresses to the outer corners, creates a large, beautiful eye. You can soften the look by gently blurring the line with a sponge or cotton swab.
The liner can be set by applying a small amount of matching powder color over top. Blend well.
Finally, a small amount of brown shadow can be brushed into the outer half of the lower lashline, if more definition of the lower eye is desired. Get it in between the lashes and blend well.
|
Brows |
Well-defined brows are a key ingredient of the classic face. If your eyebrows are light, define them with brown pencil or powder. Try defining only the arch, expanding from there as necessary.
If your brows are dark, make sure they are well-groomed and just add a touch of gel to keep them in place.
|
Mascara |
Use black or black-brown. You can apply two or more coats to the upper lashes, and just a touch to the lower lashes at the outer edges -- or you can leave the lower lashes mascara-free. Curling your lashes beforehand will enhance the big-eye effect. |
LIPS |
|
|
|
Choose a matte lip shade that coordinates well with your choice of blush. Liner is optional but can help with staying-power. Apply a coat of color, blot with tissue (or dust lightly with translucent powder) and apply another coat. Clear gloss or petroleum jelly can be applied over top for more glamour. |
