FACE |
| Foundation / concealer
Concealing dark circles and blemishes is important when going for the understated face. We suggest you use a yellow-based concelaer under eyes and in the inner corners. Apply to any areas that are ruddy or have spots or are blemished. Blend with fingers or a sponge.
Apply a light covering of foundation with a sponge and blend well with concealer. Avoid over-application of concealer. After applying blush (below) follow with a loose powder, brushing on with a large powder brush or velour puff. |
| Blush |
To copy Halle's girl-next-door look, aim for light, pinky or earth tones. Apply blush to the apples of cheeks and follow along the cheekbone. Apply a small amount to nose, chin and temples if desired. Blend well.
EYES |
| Eyelid |
To recreate this look use neutral tones with browns. Apply a nude shade to the entire lid. It can be pearly or matte. |
| Crease |
Follow with a slightly darker shade in the crease of eye. A dark brown is good. Blend well.
| Hilite |
Use a bone or vanilla in the area under the brow and on the lid above the iris to exaggerate the size of your eyes. You can also add a small touch to the inner corner of the eyes if you want. Blend it well.
| Eyeliner |
Use a chocolate brown shade to line eyes from corner to corner on both lids.
Use a very sharp pencil or liquid liner if you're good with it. You are going for the "invisible eyeliner" effect here. Keep the line very thin, and try to actually apply it in between the lashes. Blur it with a sponge or cotton swab.
Next, using a damp eyeliner brush, apply a line about 1/8" across your upper lashline with your crease shadow (dark brown). Blur this line with a sponge or cotton swab.
| Mascara |
Follow with a dark brown or black mascara. Two thin coats will do.
If you are going out for the evening, you can try a set of false lashes on the upper lids. Use a set of half-lashes on just the outer half of the lid, or apply single lashes strategically. |
| Brows |
Use a very sharp brow pencil in dark brown or black/brown and make short quick strokes to fill in and shape brows. Focus mostly on the top of the arch of the brow. |
LIPS |
Line with an apricot or orange/brown liner. Fill with a coffee or orange lipstick or gloss. If you use lipstick, top with a coat of clear gloss or good ol' petroleum jelly. |
