| To recreate Ashley's look of old Hollywood, when the stars wore dark red lipstick with dramatic eyes, BeautyRiot suggests you try the following: |
FACE |
|
|
| Foundation / concealer
|
To look flawless and glowing, without being overly madeup, try using a yellow-based concealer for undereye circles and blemishes.
Trick: apply a small triangle of concealer in the space between the two brows and blend well. This brightens the face and puts a spotlight on the eyes.
Now use a light application of bronzer all over the face, including underneath and in the inner corners of eyes.
Follow with a light loose powder to set makeup. Using a large powder brush
or velour puff, brush on powder and let set for 3-5 minutes. Then brush off
any excess. |
| Blush |
Use a blush in a deep red or wine to compliment lips, but not over-power. The lips are the key to everything with this look and if blush is too
strong, you'll come off looking like a clown. Apply blush to the apples of the cheeks and *very* sparingly at the temples.
|
EYES |
|
|
| Eyelid |
Apply a very subtle rose pink shade on lids. This should look almost like a skin-tone. |
| Crease |
Follow with a soft, rose-brown in the crease from the center of the lid to the outer corner. You can bring this shade down onto the outer half of the lids if needed to widen the eyes.
|
| Hilite |
Use a pearly white, vanilla or light pink just under the brows, in a fairly small area.
Brush this same highlighter on the lid in the area just above your pupil (when looking straight ahead) -- just a small, pea-size dot will do. Blend.
Using an eyeliner brush, apply highlighter under the lower lashes just below the pupil. Blend!
Finally, you can dab a small, delicate amount of this highlighter in the inner corner of eyes, but keep it very light. |
| Eyeliner |
Line just the upper lashline with a dark or black-brown. This should be "invisible eyeliner." Use a very sharp pencil, or liquid liner if you're handy with it. Place the thinnest line possible along the lashline, getting in between lashes as much as possible. Smooth and blur with a sponge or cotton swab. |
| Mascara |
Brown or dark brown mascara works best with this look.
If you are going out for the evening, try a set of falsh lashes on the upper lids only (or place strategic single lashes). These take practice, keep in mind. |
| Brows |
This look requires well-defined brows. So after you've plucked away all strays, fill in and add extra color with a brush on dark brown brow color.
Focus on defining the top of the arch of the brow. |
LIPS |
|
|
|
Lips are the in the spotlight here. Moisturize lips with Vaseline or a medicated lip balm for about 20 minutes before applying color. Brush off any dead skin with an old toothbrush after softening.
Line lips in a burgundy or blood-red shade.
Use a lip brush to fill the upper lip with a matching lipstick shade.
Using this same brush, fill the lower lip halfway, leaving the very center of the lip empty. Fill this empty space with a brighter, candy-apple type red. This creates a wonderful pouty-lipped illusion and will keep you from impersonating Cruella DeVille. |
